Considering how many restaurants fail within just a few years, it's truly remarkable when an eatery manages to stay open for decades. One such place is Miz Zip's, located along Old Route 66 in Flagstaff. One of the best Route 66 restaurants in Arizona, this local icon has been filling the bellies of hungry travelers since 1952. Their no-frills, all-American fare is out of this world, and it's impossible to leave the table anything less than happily stuffed.
Next time you find yourself on I-40 (otherwise known as Old Route 66) in Flagstaff, take a little detour onto E. Santa Fe Ave to eat at Miz Zip's.
With a neon sign reading, "Let's Eat" greeting hungry customers as they pull into the parking lot, this longstanding spot has been a go-to among travelers since 1952.
The décor is homey, service is fast and friendly, and mountain views are plentiful - what's not to love?
Spend a few minutes exploring before you sit down and peruse the menu.
On the walls, you'll see vintage photos of the restaurant - many of which date back to when it opened 70 years ago.
The menu hasn't changed much over the decades. All-American comfort food still reigns supreme, from hearty breakfast plates to dinner specials to homemade baked goods.
Burgers are a fan favorite at Miz Zip's, piled high with all the usual suspects and served with crispy fries.
Other popular entrees include hot sandwiches, Mexican dishes, steaks, and more, plus traditional sides such as cottage cheese, rolls, and cornbread.
Try not to fill up too much on the main course - you definitely don't want to take a raincheck on dessert.
Many different flavors of pie are baked fresh each day, from chocolate cream to apple and everything in between.
Pair your slice of pie with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream, or opt for a full-fledged sundae or shake instead.
The restaurant also offers deep-fried donuts for dessert, and every warm and flaky bite will send your taste buds even higher into heaven.
