Southwestern restaurants in Arizona have been a welcome staple, feeding tourists and locals alike. While they are not created equal, one worth visiting is Los Dos Molinos in Phoenix which for more than 30 years has been serving up traditional New Mexican food right here in the Grand Canyon State. Easily one of the best Southwestern restaurants in Arizona, this historic, family-owned operation is known for its lively atmosphere, impeccable service, and some of the spiciest, boldest, most flavor-rich heritage cuisine you'll ever eat.
Family-owned and operated for more than 30 years, Los Dos Molinos offers a taste of traditional New Mexican cuisine one state over.
What began as a humble little eatery in Springerville has grown into two thriving Phoenix locations: one in Uptown, and the other in South Central.
The name "Los Dos Molinos" means "The Two Grinders" in Spanish, referring to the tool used to grind up chile peppers.
The owners chose this name to honor their elders and two sacred chile grinders that had been in their family for generations.
Both locations feature a lively, upbeat atmosphere brimming with vibrant colors, traditional décor, and some of the best Southwestern cuisine near me.
Seating is available both indoors and out - nothing beats enjoying tacos and a margarita on the patio when the weather is nice! We love that dogs are always welcomed out here.
When it comes to the food, you're in for a treat if you like spice.
Only the hottest New Mexico chiles are used, and not only do they have a wonderful kick, but also the deepest, most robust flavor. They are even delicious over the cheeseburger and fries!
Appetizers range from chips and guacamole to cheese crisps to loaded French fries.
This might be the best Southwestern cuisine in Arizona, but don't let your eyes get bigger than your stomach - you'll want to save plenty of room for the main course!
The entrée selection is vast and varied with classics, such as burros, enchiladas, tostadas, tacos, and tamales.
Some more unique offerings include red chile-marinated pork ribs and these delicious fish tacos.
Also on the menu are salads, combination plates, and family favorites such as garlic pork roast and New Mexico green chile stew.
Everything is better with eggs stuffed inside, including the Grande Breakfast Burrito.
Los Dos Molinos offers Saturday brunch from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., and it's a can't-miss affair.
You'll also see a lengthy drink list comprised of specialty cocktails like margaritas and micheladas, plus wine by the glass and both domestic and imported beer.
Whatever you do, don't skip dessert. The sopapillas, also in bite-size called Cuadritos, are simply to die for.
