If you’re looking for a mysterious woodland trail in Alaska, there’s nothing better than a stroll through this historical Fort Abercrombie State Park. This easy trail takes you through the forest on Kodiak to the ruins of the original fort. This is one hike you won’t want to miss if you’re on the island!
Located on the island of Kodiak is Fort Abercrombie State Historical Park.
This historical park was created in 1969 and consists of 182 acres along the coastline on Miller Point. This incredible state park is open and available to be explored by all.
The most intriguing aspect to the park is the historic ruins of an old WWII coastal defense installation.
Along the trails you’ll find in the park, you’ll come across old bunkers and the broken-down structures of these past military installations.
The trail takes you along some gorgeous scenery.
Kodiak is known for the cliffs and ocean views, and this hike promises both. It’s guaranteed to take your breath away, while you stroll past the decommissioned bunkers that will dot your hike.
In between peekaboo ocean views, you’ll meander through the mysterious woodland forest.
The trail is an easy loop trail only 2.6 miles long. Most hikers can expect to finish it in about an hour and a half.
The entire elevation gain is only 590 feet.
This is an easy hike that doesn’t require any skill to complete. It’s a wonderful family trail that everyone will love.
Between the abandoned bunkers, the moss-filled trees, and the winding path, the trail gives off an eery, mysterious feel.
This is a great way to spend a day exploring some of Kodiak’s most fascinating history. And the views of the marine animals in the water nearby don’t hurt, either.
