The Riverboat Cruise In Alaska You Never Knew Existed
Take a trip back in time to see how river travel was in 1901, the year Fairbanks was founded. This family friendly attraction is a Fairbanks favorite when visitors are in town. The Riverboat Discovery will take you an an easy evening cruise in the golden heart city and show you how lovely it really is on the banks of the Chena River.
Directions and more information
The Riverboat Discovery is a popular Fairbanks attraction that shows off the pastoral Chena River and the fantastic old sternwheeler that roams the waters.
Board at Steamboat Landing, the headquarters for the boat tour. There is a dining area, a gift shop, and a large dock where you can relax and enjoy the sun while waiting to board.
The Binkley family has been in the riverboat business for 5 generations in Alaska on the Yukon, Tanana and Chena Rivers.
The riverboat ride is three hours long. Ride down the Chena to the village and see the rivers meet where the boat turns around.
The "wedding of the waters" is where the clear, mountain run off water of the Chena meet the silty water of the much larger Tanana River.
The riverboat stops at Chena, an Athabascan village with cabins made of spruce logs, a cache used for storing supplies, and a spruce bark hut.
Be prepared for excitement on the river like watching this float plane take off right next to the Riverboat!
Enjoy your ride on the Riverboat Discovery, an attraction found only in interior Alaska.
