Taste Your Way Through Port Chilkoot Distillery, Located In An Old Army Fort In Alaska
If you’re in Haines, there is nothing better to do then taste your way through the incredible liquor distillery at Port Chilkoot Distillery! This cool spot is located in an Old Army Fort with some of the best views in town. Stopping at this distillery should make everyone’s to-do list!
Fort Seward was a fort in Haines from 1898 until it was finally deactivated in 1945. The distillery is actually located in the fort's former bakery!
Luckily one of the co-owners, Sean Copeland, was a carpenter with almost two decades of experience! He restored the gorgeous building to the masterpiece you see today.
You can find five different delicious liquors that they craft in small batches here. Try 50 Fathoms Gin, Green Siren Absinthe, Icy Strait Vodka, Boatwright Bourbon, and Wrack Line Rye!
They also offer samples for you to try, and you'll be able to taste all of the local ingredients they use when crafting their liquor! Heather Shade, the other co-owner, is a former biologist and works with the local botanicals to use in the spirits!
They craft their tonic to match perfectly with their 50 Fathoms Gin. Expect incredible flavors like spice, citrus, floral, and bitters from cinchona bark. This is not your average tonic water!
It's a very short walk from where the cruise ships dock, so if you're only in town for a moment, you can scoot over here quickly. If you want to enjoy a leisurely drink and just gaze out into some of the prettiest scenery in Alaska you can do that too!
Head on in to their tasting room year round to enjoy some of the best craft cocktails in Haines. Their tasting room hours run Wednesday through Saturday 4:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. October 1st through May 8th, and Monday through Saturday 12:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. May 8th through September 31st!
