The Heitman Lake Trail has a little bit of everything, and is easy enough for most abilities. Not too long, it’s just enough to get you moving, but not too hard to be intimidating.

You’ll climb 1,148 feet during your hike. Although this sounds a little steep, the views at the top are worth the climb.

It’s an out and back trail, and you’ll pass Heitman Lake before you reach the end of the trail. This is a great resting point if you need a break.

You’ll want to wear boots, as some sections of the trail can get muddy. Keep your eye out for wildflowers!

Bird watching is a favorite activity in this area, and you may be lucky enough to spot some unique birds in the area. In fact, Kodiak Island is known for its unique species. The best time to go birding in this area is late winter and early spring.

Spend an hour relaxing, and if it’s a hot day, make sure to take a dip! On the way back eat a picnic lunch and enjoy the views, and reward yourself on the work you did on this hike.

Bring the family, or come solo. However you choose to hike this stunning trail, you’ll love every minute of it!
