Summer in Alaska can get hot and that's why it's important to know the best places to cool off. These Alaska swimming holes, lakes, and rivers are great places to hang out with friends and escape that subtle Alaskan heat. Have you been to any of these lakes? 1) McCarthy Swimming Hole
Right off the trail to Kennicott River is a beautiful swimming hole with a lovely beach to lay back and relax on. When you're ready to explore, make sure you get up close and personal with the nearby Kennicott Glacier. If you’re in the area and thinking about going swimming in Alaska, this is the perfect spot!
2) Little Campbell Lake
At Little Campbell Lake, you can hike, bike, swim, fish, or float, all within just a few minutes of Downtown Anchorage! It is a great little swimming hole in Alaska.
3) Goose Lake
Goose Lake is right in the heart of Anchorage, Alaska and if it's not too crowded, it's a great place to take the family and cool off for a bit. If you’re in Anchorage and wondering where to go swimming in Alaska, head straight here!
4) Mirror Lake
If you find that your local swimming hole is a little crowded just head out of Anchorage for about 20 miles and you'll hit the lesser-known but just as beautiful Mirror Lake in Chugiak. It’s a wonderful Alaska swimming hole that’s never too busy.
5) Big Lake Alaska
Do you have a boat? If so, then Big Lake is the place to be during the Alaskan Summer. This is a popular destination that's located between Wasilla and Willow. It’s such a great place to go swimming in Alaska.
6) Rocky Lake
If Big Lake Alaska is just a little too crowded for your liking then check out the nearby Rocky Lake! This is a nice, quiet swimming hole in Alaska.
