Hambrick Bat Cave in Alabama offers a unique opportunity to view the emergence of thousands of gray bats each night.

Over the years, bat viewing has become a fun and popular activity for all ages. What were once known as dirty flying mammals are now seen as fascinating creatures. There are quite a few places here in Alabama where you can view the emergence of bats, including Hambrick Bat Cave. To learn all about this cave, including how to reach it and the best time to view the bats, take a look below.

Hambrick Bat Cave is located on Lake Guntersville about a mile upriver from the Guntersville Dam.

This cave, which is home to one of the largest maternity colonies of gray bats, is not accessible by land. One of the best ways to reach it is via kayak.

A great way of doing this is by launching your kayak at the dam. After doing so, you'll continue upriver, and Hambrick Bat Cave will eventually be on your left.

You'll recognize it the moment you see the fence and TVA signs. It's important to understand that it's illegal to enter Hambrick Bat Cave, hence the reason for the fence.

Each night at dusk, around 60,000+ bats emerge from this unique cave for their nightly feeding. It's truly amazing!

To experience the best view, you'll want to be far enough away from the cave to be able to see all of the bats as they're zooming out. Their emergence is a sight to behold and shouldn't be missed!
