The Tutwiler, which was originally built in 1914, is located in downtown Birmingham, Alabama. It's the city's first modern hotel.
Since open for business, people from all over the world have stayed overnight at this historic hotel. Not only is it beautiful, but it's also filled with a great history.
In addition to being a fantastic place for an overnight stay, The Tutwiler is also believed to be haunted by Major Tutwiler. Major Tutwiler was a former resident of Ridgely Apartments, which is what the current hotel's building formerly housed. The current building is The Tutwiler's second location.
Major Tutwiler's ghost is known for knocking on room doors throughout the night. Many guests have come forward claiming to hear these noises. They've also witnessed lights turning on and off by themselves, in addition to doors opening and closing on their own.
The next time you're in Birmingham and need a place to stay, consider booking a room, or suite, at The Tutwiler. Not only will you have a nice and relaxing stay, but you just might spot Major Tutwiler's ghost.
