What is there to do in Hilo, Hawaii?

Your trip to Hilo will certainly be filled with awe-inspiring views, magical moments of joy, and tempting treats for your taste buds. It doesn't matter if you stay at the finest Hawaii resorts or a hammock on the beach, Hilo is a wonderful oasis that will grow fondly in your heart each time you close your eyes. Here are a few things to do on your trip to Hilo:

  • Visit Wailuku River State Park: This delightful state park is actually the smallest in the state, but that doesn't mean it is lacking in any way. In fact, it is one of the most beautiful hidden gems you will discover on your trip to Hilo. Even though it may be the smallest state park, the biggest river in Hawaii flows through it. The Wailuku River flows through stunning old lava flows, creating pools of water that make enchanting places for swimming in Hawaii. And, we can't forget one of the most incredible waterfalls in Hawaii — Rainbow Falls.
  • Take a scenic drive from Hilo to Hawi: It is hard to not enjoy the scenery anywhere you drive in Hawaii, but a really special one is the 107-mile drive between Hilo and Hawi. Each time we take this drive, we are surprised by new and wonderful sights. Akaka Falls cascades down 442 feet into a secluded pool of water. Waves crash against jagged volcanic rocks at the Laupahoehoe Point Beach Park and the lush Waipio Valley is striking against the deep blue ocean waters.
  • Grab a tasty bite at the Hilo Bay Cafe: All of these outdoor adventures and stunning sights really work up an appetite. So the next time you are visiting Hilo, make sure you stop at the Hilo Bay Cafe. Whether it's the delicious desserts, the exquisitely simple yet satisfying entrees, or simply the gorgeous views of Hilo Bay, rounding out your day at this magical cafe puts the exclamation point on your Hawaiian experience.
