OK, we admit it. We’re not morning people, either. Despite knowing full well how incredible a beautiful sunrise is, it can be hard to summon the energy to get there for one! But we’ll let you in on a little secret: the best sunrise you could possibly see in the state of Vermont is at Stark’s Nest on Stark Mountain.

Stark Mountain is located south of the Appalachian Gap in the Green Mountains in Vermont. During winter time, people take advantage of Mad River Glen Ski resort’s winter activities, which includes a warming hut at the top called Stark’s Nest for skiers. During the summer, however, the sun melts and hikers take over. And yes, if you backpack to Stark’s Nest, you can stay overnight at the little hut: it’s free and accessible to all long-trail hikers. Not only is that amazing for those attempting a longer hike who need a place to crash, it also means you can see one of the most legendary sunrises Vermont has to offer. It’s worth it.
