Fall just may be our favorite season in South Carolina. Autumn is a sort of sweet and welcomed limbo between the sweltering days of summer and the sometimes chaotic moments that go hand-in-hand with the holidays ahead. What better way to enjoy the moment than with apple cider and donuts?
Windy Hill Orchard in York, SC is a lovely place to get outside to enjoy the crisp fall air.
This apple orchard and cidery is loads of fun for the whole family... and it is a farm, so the kids rarely run out of things to do. The same goes for mom and dad: order of flight of apple ciders and get started.

Oops... we almost left out the part about the donuts! They're made fresh on the farm each day (several times a day); get 'em while they're still warm for an added treat!
Grab the little ones and an apple picker and go have some fun. Kids of all ages (even grown teens) love popping into the orchard to help spot and pick the best apples to bring home.
And... of course, if you'd rather devote all of your time to the other activities on the farm (cider drinking, donut eating, relaxing) then you can pop over to the market and get a few bags of already-picked apples. (We sense a fresh apple pie in your near future.)
If you opted to leave the kids with a sitter, then you can make up for it by bringing home a few of the caramel apples. Who doesn't love a crisp apple covered in caramel (and in this case loads of sprinkles!) when the weather turns cool?
