Alabama is a great state to live in and visit, but be forewarned. There are several things here that can, and just might, kill you. Whether it’s being stuck in the middle of severe weather, or being attacked by a vicious, prowling creature, many terrifying (and fatal) things can, and do, happen in Alabama more often than you think.

When it comes to having the most violent tornadoes, Alabama ranks #1. As a matter of fact, Alabama has been struck by eight EF5 tornadoes, which is more than any other state in the nation. Always take extra precaution if a tornado is nearby.
Many years can pass before Alabama gets hit with a hurricane, but when it does get it, it gets hit hard. The Alabama towns/cities that are located further inland may not get hit by the hurricane itself, but they'll likely experience high winds and heavy rainfall.

Sometimes when it rains in Alabama, it rains hard, resulting in a flood. Fortunately, most people are able to evacuate and make it out alive. It's too bad the same can't be said for their personal belongings.

Winters are usually mild in Alabama, and heavy snow rarely occurs. When a snow storm does hit Alabama, it usually turns the roadways into sheets of ice. The trees and power lines also end up icing over. The best thing to do during an Alabama snow storm is stay home. If you venture out, your car could end up sitting in a ditch for days. Or even worse, you could get stranded.
In recent years, many sharks have been located off Alabama's Gulf Coast. The next time you visit one of Alabama's Gulf Coast beaches, pay close attention. If the double red flags go up, get out of the water ASAP. Sharks are NO JOKE!

This particular snake is the only type that swims with its neck and head high above water. If you're ever in the lake or river and see this type of snake, use extreme caution.
Alabama is home to numerous alligators. Interestingly, the largest American alligator ever killed was caught on the Alabama River. If you ever encounter an alligator, be careful. Better yet, it's best to avoid swimming in lakes and rivers that are known to have alligators.
