10 Texas Cities Are Among The Happiest Places To Live In 2020

If you’re looking to kick off the decade with a big move, Texas has plenty of amazing cities to choose from — especially given this list released by WalletHub. Ten of the happiest cities, based on Emotional & Physical Wellbeing, Income & Employment, and Community & Environment, for 2020 are right here in the Lone Star State, which isn’t too shabby of a finish. 1. Plano

Located just north of Dallas, Plano comes in at number two on the entire list — second only to Fremont, California. It received a total score of 73, with the highest-ranking category being Community & Environment. It also boasts the fifth-lowest divorce and separation rate across the board.

2. Austin

Our beloved Capital City is No. 2 in Texas and 22 overall. It also received the most points for Community & Environment — understandably so, considering all the outdoor activities and breathtaking scenery offered in town. The city has the fifth-highest rate of income growth compared to all the cities listed.

3. Grand Prairie

Not too far behind is Grand Prairie, another Dallas suburb. It's 27th on the list, earning a total score of 65. Income & Employment is actually the top-ranking category here, with emotional & physical wellbeing a close successor.

4. Irving

No. 35 is Irving, yet another city on the outskirts of Dallas. Community & Environment scored a 106, far surpassing the other tallies of 37 and 17.

5. Garland

Still another Dallas suburb, Garland clocked in at just under 64. Income & Employment was by far the highest-ranking category at 122.

6. Fort Worth

Fort Worth, home to the Stockyards District, comes in at No. 60. Its Income & Employment rank has a slight lead, with Community & Environment not far behind at all.

7. Arlington

Right behind Fort Worth is Arlington, where thrill-seekers from all over the state come to ride the day away at Six Flags Over Texas. Income & Employment is the dominant category here, as well, followed by Community & Environment and Emotional & Physical Wellbeing, respectively.

8. El Paso

Next up is El Paso, finishing at No. 68 overall. It received 120 points in Income & Employment, 76 in Emotional & Physical Wellbeing, and 41 in Community & Environment.

9. Dallas

After beating around the bush throughout this entire list, we finally reach Dallas itself. Community & Environment is the overwhelmingly highest-ranking category, with a total score of 148. Income & Employment follows, and Emotional & Physical Wellbeing is third and final.

10. Brownsville

Last, but certainly not least, is Brownsville. Unlike the beginning of the list, Emotional & Physical Wellbeing has the highest score in this South Texas city.
