Iron Springs Recreation Area is one of many secrets hiding within the Ouachita National Forest. Less than three miles north of the park is a quick turn off on the right to AR-132.

It's easy to miss if you're not looking for it but the Winona Scenic Drive is a wonderful side trip to add to your adventures in the Ouachitas.

Forest Road 132 is a modest 27-mile route between State Highways 7 and 9 but it's definitely one of the prettiest! Use this pamphlet as a helpful guide to the drive's numerous vistas.

Every Arkansan knows the backroad is the right road.

There's just something about the slow-paced, winding path through the woods that thrills any Arkansas nature lover. This short drive has about eight stopping points (if you so choose) to look out at the mountains and over Lake Winona.

You don't have to stay in the car the whole time either!

Besides getting out for a better angle of the vista overlooks, the drive also cuts through the Ouachita National Recreation Trail. The entire trail is over 200 miles so be sure you've researched further before setting off. This particular spur leaves from the drive's Forked Mountain Vista, through the Flatside Wilderness, and returns to the drive around the Lake Sylvia Vista.

Primitive camping is also available along the scenic drive so your trip could easily turn into a full weekend in the woods.

Forest Road 132 may be one of the state's shorter scenic drives but it's the perfect shortcut to some of the Ouachita's best views.
