This Wyoming Mountain Town Is Officially One Of the Best In America
Towns with as much altitude as attitude are trending, and one of the best in the country happens to be in Wyoming. Men's Journal recently released their top mountain town picks and our very own Casper us among them. As the second biggest city in the state, it offers all the comforts and amenities you could want, but opportunities for outdoor adventures abound nearby, making it an ideal vacation destination.
Welcome to "the mountain town for the wild at heart."
Yep, that's what Casper is known for.
Sitting at the foot of Casper Mountain, the city has plenty of room to sprawl out.
Located at the northern part of the Laramie Mountain Range, the Casper's elevation of around 5,200 is just a bit lower than Denver.
Just like much of the rest of Wyoming, there's plenty of history here.
The historic Rialto Theatre was built in 1922. It's not the only theater in the city, but it was the first in Casper to show talking pictures, and it's still in operation today.
The National Historic Trails and Interpretive Center is in Casper, along with a number of other museums.
Before taking to the outdoors, you'll want to hit one of the outfitters in Casper such as Mountain Sports or Lou Taubert's.
They'll have everything you need for all the adventures you'll have in Fremont Canyon and beyond, challenging but enjoyable activities such as kayaking, fly fishing, rock climbing...
...hiking, mountain biking, or trail running.
After a full day of physical exertion, treat yourself to a cold one and a steak...
...or a mouthwatering wood-fired pie at Firehouse Pizza.
Between the history, the food, and the amazing terrain, you'll see why Casper is among the best mountain towns in the nation.
