This Underrated Museum Just Might Be The Most Beautiful Place Near Kansas City

If you’re thinking about beauty, surely a few things come to mind: Union Station, our sunsets, and even the Plaza during the holidays. Kansas City is a beautiful place in of itself, but sometimes you’re looking for something even better. Well, there’s a building in one of our suburbs that takes that title! What might be the most beautiful place in the area, you ask? Let’s take a look!
When you look out over the area surrounding this amazing museum, you'll notice that the building itself looks like it's on fire. In a stained-glass sort of way.
Inside the glass is a towering creature, a replica of the Tyrannosaurus Rex found in the mountains of Montana. This museum is a great place to learn about the giants that once walked the earth long before we came along.
The museum was founded in 2008, opened in 2014, and is partnered with the American Museum of Natural History, where they host exhibitions you'd normally only find in New York City.
Though the exhibits do change every year, you'll always find our favorite giant standing inside the Great Hall. Visitors can explore a virtual tour of Stonehenge, an undersea adventure, or the Discovery Room, which is aimed at young children and their caregivers. They also host multiple events throughout the year for all ages, making it worth the trip to keep coming back for more.
The building itself is the only one in the U.S. to feature Dichroic Glass, developed by NASA, giving it the perfect appearance for the name Prairiefire Museum. Ambient light and angle changes alter the colors refracted inside and out. That's why they're are so fluid and even move when you move.
At night, the sunset and red ground lights create the best atmosphere for the "fire," just like when the flint hills burn every year. Can't get enough of the beauty of this building? It's even better in person!
