What are some unconventional home ideas?

When it comes to where we rest our weary heads at night, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Everyone has their own unique needs and preferences when they look for a place to call home. As a result, there are an endless array of home designs to choose from. It could be anything from a tiny home on wheels to a converted school bus or shipping container. Or it could be what is called an Earthship home, a home that is completely off the grid, powered by renewable energy sources, and designed to minimize its impact on the environment.

Whatever the specific design, an unconventional home is ultimately one that breaks away from traditional ideas about what a home should be. If you want to experience tiny home living for yourself, how about renting one of the many cute unconventional homes in MN? Or, maybe even a hobbit house…

New Zealand is the location used for much of the Lord of the Rings trilogy so one would imagine there would be plenty of hobbit houses. But how about in Minnesota? Are there any unique houses in MN where our friendly hobbit friends would enjoy a cozy fire and a song or two?

The most famous hobbit house in Minnesota isn’t actually in Minnesota. Huh? It’s located in River Falls, Wisconsin which is just over the border. What other unique homes are there in Minnesota?

Okay, we kind of threw you for a loop by suggesting Minnesota had the most famous hobbit house. Sorry about that. So, are there any unique homes in Minnesota that aren’t inhabited by little mythical creatures? You betcha! How about a geodesic dome? These ultra-energy-efficient homes are built to use thirty percent less energy for heating and cooling because a dome has the largest amount of interior space with the least amount of surface area.

If that flew over your head as it did mine, that simply means heat and cool air circulate without being obstructed by all those walls, angles, and levels like we have in traditional homes. If you keep an eye out you might find one of these unique homes for sale in MN, until then you can rent this geodesic dome in Duluth overlooking beautiful Lake Superior for a weekend getaway.
