Getting outside is a great pastime of many Kansans, especially if they have an office job. However, this little walk through some of Kansas’ best scenery is great for nature lovers of all types. It doesn’t matter if you’re a plant expert or if you only know what poison ivy looks like — you’ll love this trail.

Hosted by the Kansas Native Plant Society, the event named Wildflower Weekend is an annual celebration and adventure. This year, it’s happening from September 8-10 in Cloud county (around Concordia.) If you’re wanting to register for this trip or find more info, here’s where you can do so, but make sure you do it by the end of the month!

Here, you’ll adventure part of the Smoky Hills, some of Kansas’ most diverse areas for wildlife. The best part of the weekend is each outing, where you’ll get to walk a wild flower trail in virgin prairie and other plant-rich areas, which we don’t have much left of. These, will hold native Kansas wildflowers and curious plants of all kinds. Sage, catclaws (shown below), and also some of our non-plant friends will all be there for your viewing experience. Why not take a guided trip to learn more about our wonderful state? We’re not all about sunflowers!
