Originally constructed to haul silver & gold ore from the San Juan Mountains to Denver, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is now one of Colorado’s favorite train rides that spans across some of the most beautiful scenery in the state! Running from Durango (which was actually founded by the Denver & Rio Grande Railway in 1879) to Silverton, this passenger train features a seat for every budget (ranging from standard class all the way up to the Victorian-inspired presidential class), each boasting the same million dollar views of the colorful mountains and cascading Animas River. In addition to just the views along this 42-mile trek, the Durango & Silverton also offers a number of different special events, including character meet and greets, Wine & Rails, and even a Cowboy Poetry Train!

The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad — which runs out of the original 1882 depot located at 479 Main Avenue in Durango — runs May 6th through October 28th. For more information on fares, packages, and special events, please visit the Durango & Silverton’s website.
