There's Nothing Quite As Magical As The Grand Prismatic Spring You'll Find At Yellowstone In Wyoming
Yellowstone is truly a land of enchantment. Anyone who visits will immediately understand why this landscape was so fascinating to all who have seen it in the past. Many indigenous tribes trace their roots – in myth and in history – to Yellowstone, and when settlers made their way west, their reports were initially written off as lies. One of the hallmarks of the park is the Midway Geyser Basin, where you’ll find beautiful thermal features and the absolutely magical Grand Prismatic Spring.
Yellowstone's Midway Geyser Basin may be the most visited spot in the park. It sits, well, midway between Madison Junction and the Old Faithful area.
It's home to the Excelsior geyser and thermal springs - like the beautiful Turquoise Pool shown below.
Midway is a bit more isolated from other thermal features, and is smaller than the Lower Geyser Basin or Norris Geyser Basin. Why, then, does it draw so much attention?
Even though this basin is small, it's home to the most famous thermal pool in the world, the Grand Prismatic Spring.
Grand Prismatic is a stunningly beautiful hot spring that's known for its bright rainbow of colors created by bacterial mats and living organisms in the superheated water.
You can wander out toward the spring on boardwalk trails, getting so close that you'll feel the steam rising. Be sure to stay on the boardwalk, though - the thin crust around the spring is fragile and can break, causing extreme injuries or even death.
It's one thing to see Grand Prismatic Spring up close, but to truly experience the wonder of it, a short hike to the Grand Prismatic Overlook is something you must do.
From above, you can truly appreicate the full spectrum of colors that Grand Prismatic Spring displays. There's nothing more magical in all of Wyoming!
