Wyoming is full of natural beauty, and if you’ve ever driven the Beartooth Pass, you know just how remarkable the Absaroka Range can be! Next time you’re up that way, make time to park the car and hit the trail. Hike down from the highway and you’ll get to see Beauty Lake, and you’ll likely have the alpine lake all to yourself.
You'll find the aptly named Beauty Lake trail near Beartooth Pass, along the Beartooth Highway. It's tucked away in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, so it's truly a remote spot.
Despite being fairly easy to find and not too strenuous for fit hikers, this trail is relatively lightly trafficked, and you won't have to deal with crowds or noise when you make the trek.
This stunning trail is just under four miles out and back, and you'll work through 583 feet of elevation gain on your way to and from the lake. By Wyoming's standards, that's practically a walk you can do in your sleep! The ascent and descent are both gradual, so even those walking on delicate knees shouldn't have too tough of a time.
The crystal clear water is so clean, you might be tempted to dive right in! Be warned, though - even on the hottest days of the year, this water is pretty chilly.
Visit the AllTrails page, here, for a map and current trail conditions. Be sure to check the Beartooth Highway conditions and the weather before you head out! As always, carry bear spray and be sure to leave no trace of your visit in the wilderness.
