There’s a small, locally-owned and operated soda bottler up in Shawano that few people know about. Twig’s has been bottling in real glass since they started back in 1951. Up in this area you can find a wide variety of Twig’s flavors, but only one – the Golden Cola – is a brand folks all across the country recognize. Though it tends to be widely associated with the South, Sun Drop has a long history here in Wisconsin, where Twig’s has been bottling it since the beginning. This unique beverage that’s made with orange juice and packs more caffeine than Mountain Dew is so cool, Twig’s decided to start holding a festival in its honor. Sun Drop Dayz takes place on May 31 and June 1st in 2019 and you’re going to want to check it out.
Known as the Golden Cola, Sun Drop was created about a hundred years ago. Twig's has been bottling since they started in 1951. Back then they were one of several bottlers of the drink here in the state.
At one time, there were more than 100 places bottling Sun Drop. Now Twig's is the only spot still putting the drink in returnable glass bottles. The brand is now owned by Dr. Pepper, but these folks here at Twig's love celebrating their history with this citrusy drink that's unlike any other.
Though most folks would assume a state down South would be most closely aligned with Sun Drop, there is actually more Sun Drop sold in eastern Wisconsin than in the whole United States west of the Mississippi River. That's why it only makes sense to celebrate all things Sun Drop here in Shawano.

Aside from the obvious fun to be had at a Wisconsin town festival, this one also has one of the best petting zoos you've ever seen. You'll find animals from goats to kangaroos just waiting to have their furry bellies rubbed.
There's a flea market, antique fair, classic car show, dunk tank, kids' zone and lots more to keep you busy and having a good time at Sun Drop Dayz. Plus, there's a 5K and some pretty amazing live music all day long.

If you're like me, you remember getting a can of Sun Drop at the store when mom did the shopping and this festival is the perfect bit of nostalgia that supports Twig's, Shawano and the legacy of one soda that was unlike any other.
Sun Drop Dayz takes place at Memorial Park in Shawano, just blocks away from Twig’s Beverage. In 2019 it runs from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, May 31 and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 1.
