There are unusual, fun, and quirky restaurants in Wisconsin and then there is Rocks For Fun. There’s really no fully describing this weird and wonderful place. It really is the kind of place you need to see and experience for yourself. Located in small Tigerton, which is about 40 miles southeast of Wausau, Rocks for Fun is a little roadside stop serving up delicious pasties alongside a bunch of puns, possibly some magic and the most unique decor you’ve ever seen.
If you can't take a joke or puns aren't your thing, you should probably just keep on driving. This little roadside restaurant has an abundance of charm inside, but nearly all of it is tied to what might best be described as "dad humor."
Quirky and even weird might not be the right words to describe Rocks for Fun. Owner Don McClellan has filled this place with all kinds of anthropomorphized rocks set in a huge number of displays. And he's got hundreds of more designs in his head. You've never seen more googly eyes outside an arts and crafts store.
Every surface has rocks and the rocks are part of elaborate scenes and jokes. Don will most likely be there to further the story and fill you in on all kinds more puns and jokes.
Many of the rocks are for sale, but Don is rather protective of his creations, so the prices are a bit out of most of our price range. But it's still fun to see why one vignette might be priced so much more or less than another.
You have to get over the idea that you're being watched, but beyond that, this place feels like you've been invited to lunch with your really eccentric uncle — or maybe that odd family friend that still shows up at most family gatherings.
The only thing on the menu here are pasties — Cornish hand pies that are traditionally stuffed with meat and veggies, but go so much further than that here at Rocks for Fun.
But you'll also find oddities like the spaghetti pastry, the Philly cheesesteak pasty, and so much more. If it fits in their signature smiley pastry pocket, they serve it up here.
There are hundreds of rocks representing visual jokes, puns and an all around good time here at Rocks for Fun. It's a hilarious, ridiculous, fun, and over the top roadside stop that really does have to be seen to be believed. You'll love this off-the-wall, weird and wonderful spot that's truly one of a kind.
