A Madison institution since 1946, Mickies gets pretty crowded, especially on weekend mornings when a line out the door is the norm.

Definitely worth the wait, the Madison favorite is known for serving up substantial portions of tasty food along with hearty helpings of nostalgia, thanks to its authentically retro digs.

Over the years, diners from all walks of life – from students and alumni to musicians and performers – have stopped by Mickies to step back in time and savor a hearty, filling breakfast.

The early morning fare includes all the classics, including pancakes, which are still made the same way they were as when Mickies first opened.

There has been one pancake-related change, though.

Chocolate chip pancakes were added to the menu – and have since become a customer favorite.

Another notable change came in 1992, when the Scrambler became a menu staple.

The signature creation starts with a bed of potatoes, which is topped with scrambled eggs, a choice of meat, and two veggies and then covered with cheese or gravy.

Breakfast may be the most popular meal of the day at Mickies, but it’s not the only meal you can enjoy at the eatery.

The menu also includes a slew of sandwiches and burgers.

And remember, Mickies is a dairy bar, so great shakes are part of the fare, too.
