At first glance, Brat House Grill could easily be mistaken for a church – and that’s no coincidence because, at one time, it was a church. But that’s not all. It actually started off as a schoolhouse. And while the building’s history is amazing, the brats served within its walls are even better! Take a look:
There’s more to the Dells than water parks. For instance, it’s where you’ll find Brat House Grill, an award-winning eatery that just so happens to be housed in the oldest building in Sauk County.
Based on its appearance, it’s not unlikely that passersby unfamiliar with the area would assume it’s a place of worship.
And that assumption is rightly justified since it did serve as a church. In 1865, it became the Delton Methodist Church, which explains the stained glass window and bell tower.
The building actually goes back further than its days as a church, though. It was constructed in 1850 as the Delton Academy, a one-room schoolhouse.
In 2007, the building took on its current role – home of the “official best brats” in Wisconsin.
That’s not the eatery’s only claim to fame, though. Brat House Grill has been recognized on a national level at Flavored Nation Food Festivals across the country, representing the state for bratwurst.
And most recently, it’s been awarded the Trip Advisor 2020 Travelers Choice Award.
Award-winning brats aren’t all you’ll find on the menu, though.
The tasty fare also includes burgers and sandwiches.
And that’s in addition to homemade soups, side dish specialties, and homemade desserts.
With revered fare and even more noteworthy locale, a meal at Brat House Grill is sure to be equal parts mouthwatering and memorable.
