With tons of great parks scattered throughout the state, spending time outdoors in Wisconsin is a breeze. In fact, with so many incredible parks, it’d be easy to overlook a few. And one you definitely don’t want to pass up is Big Bay Town Park. Often overshadowed by the nearby Big Bay State Park, Big Bay Town Park is quite possibly one of the state’s best-kept secrets. Take a look:
Big Bay Town Park is located on Madeline Island, about three miles north of the more well-known Big Bay State Park.
An incredible outdoor wonder, the park is often touted as “one of the most impressive natural areas in the state.”
Throughout the years, the park has received several awards, including the best lake view.
And its combination of primitive and RV sites landed the park the title of best campground by Lake Superior Magazine.
The accolades don’t end there, though. The park’s beach has been deemed the best beach in northern Wisconsin.
One of the beach’s most notable features is the rocks that fill it. The colorful collection of stones has led to another of the park’s accolades – best rock picking.
In addition to a campground, great views, and a beach, Big Bay Town Park boasts access to Big Bay Lagoon as well as plenty of opportunities for outdoor fun.
Offering hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, picnicking, bird-watching, and snowshoeing, it’s a year-round outdoor paradise.
An easy boardwalk/hiking trail, which is a little over two miles, connects Big Bay Town Park and Big Bay State Park, so going between the two is completely possible and a great way to extend your outdoor adventure.
A park brimming with perks, Big Bay Town Park is the perfect place to kick back, unwind, and get in touch with nature – regardless of the time of year!
