If farmers markets were a season, they'd be summer. Or spring. Or fall - any season but cold, white, frozen winter... right? Wrong! In West Virginia, at least, there actually is a farmers market that stays open all winter long so that you can get your fresh produce and other goods year-round. It's the Morgantown, West Virginia Winter Farmers Market that is held every other week in the Mon County Center at Mylan Park.
What can you expect to find at a winter farmers market, you might be wondering? Turns out, you can expect to find quite a bit, for an event that's typically only thought to be associated with spring, summer, and fall!
At the Morgantown Winter Market in the Mon County Extension Services and 4-H Center, for example, there's sprouts for a fresh salad or a rice bowl or just to bring some spring to your kitchen window sill.
There are greens and garlic and squash and even hot house tomatoes.
There's comfort food.
There's health food.
There's fresh meat.
There are baked goods.
There are spices and seasonings and mixes and other dry goods.
There are soaps and lotions and jewelry and crafts.
And this is just the beginning! The real question is, what can't you find at a winter farmers market in West Virginia?
