In many ways, the town of Grandview, West Virginia, flies a bit under the radar. It's a tiny unincorporated community located up in the mountains and, as you've probably guessed by the name, it boasts some seriously incredible views. It's also situated near another brag-worthy destination: Castle Rock. This fascinating geological formation is one of the most unique in the area, and you'll want to make a point of exploring it soon.
If you're looking for a trail that promises fascinating geological formations along with breathtaking views, Castle Rock Trail will not disappoint.
Photographed above is the namesake Castle Rock, whose name is inspired by a fortress-like appearance.
Located within the New River Gorge Park & Preserve, this trail measures 1.2 miles in length roundtrip.
But don't be fooled by the relatively short distance; this is definitely considered to be a strenuous hike!
Hikers will want to take their time to tread carefully. Also, be sure to stop to admire the intricate rock walls and exposed coal seams.
You'll also want to keep an eye out for wildlife, however small!
While Castle Rock is fascinating, you'll be equally enchanted by the breathtaking vista, aptly named Grand View.
The Grandview Rim Trail can be an easy add-on to Castle Rock Trail for those looking for even more of an adventure.
Keep in mind, though, that it's not recommended that young children take the Grandview Rim Trail since there is uneven footing and steep drop-offs.
No matter what time of year you embark on this adventure, you're bound to have an unforgettable experience!
