Good fried chicken - as good as Grandma makes - has achieved legendary status in America. Not all of us have a friend or family member that can fry us up a big plate of chicken whenever we come for a visit, though. But here's one thing we do all have, at least those of us with access to Morgantown, West Virginia: fried chicken from the Dirty Bird.
The Dirty Bird has made a nest for itself in the corner of a tall old brick building on High Street in Morgantown.
Inside, the furnishings are simple but clean. But here's the thing. Nobody comes to the Dirty Bird for the furniture. They come for the fried chicken.
And boy, have they come to the right place. In fact, Dirty Bird was recently named one of "The 30 Best Fried Chicken Places In America" by business website 24/7 Wall St.
And while you can get a plate or bucket of two to twenty pieces of chicken, that's not the only option you'll have. At Dirty Bird, the fried chicken also comes perched atop light and fluffy Belgian waffles.
It comes hidden away in subs, slathered with condiments and smothered in melted cheese.
It comes piled high on a biscuit dripping with gravy.
