Unless you live on Whidbey Island, you might not know Fort Casey even exists. Tucked up in a corner of Coupeville surrounded by the natural beauty of Ebey's Landing, it's a quiet, peaceful, and almost hidden place. But not only is it full of fascinating local history and patriotic artifacts, but you can actually sleep inside former officers' housing units when you stay at the Fort Casey Inn.
Fort Casey Inn consists of 10 units that were once Non-Commissioned Officers’ quarters.
The property dates back to 1909, and the housing units still have a historic charm.
Each of these two-bedroom houses are fully furnished and ready to rent.
They sleep anywhere from 4 - 6 guests, depending on the number of beds. Many of them have beautiful clawfoot tubs.
The homes are cozy and welcoming, full of antiques and wartime memorabilia.
They even have full kitchens, so you can make your family a meal instead of venturing out for food.
If you love American history, you'll love the patriotic decor.
This place perfectly combines patriotism, whimsy and romance.
Most homes overlook Crockett Lake, a natural bird sanctuary, and Admiralty Bay on Puget Sound.
You'll love sipping your morning coffee and taking in the views.
Fort Casey was constructed at the turn of the 20th century, when the invention of the airplane and the subsequent development of military aircrafts made the area vulnerable to attack.
It was named after Brigadier General Thomas Lincoln Casey, U.S. Army Chief of Engineers. It was used as a training facility until the mid-1940s, and now it's immortalized as a state park.
Not only is the Fort Casey Inn adjacent to the state park, it's only a 10 minute walk from the beautiful Admiralty Head Lighthouse.
And it's even closer to the beach.
Here's the best part: These cozy homes are surprisingly affordable.
Rates vary, but you can typically rent a house for $150 - $175 per night, which is fantastic for a waterside property with a full kitchen and all the comforts of home.
Craving some peace and quiet? Make the Fort Casey Inn your next getaway.
You can rent the entire place for a family reunion or an event, or you can just bring someone special and enjoy the relaxation (and frequent deer sightings).
You can make a reservation at the Fort Casey Inn on their website. And while you're there, make sure to save some room in your schedule for exploring Whidbey Island.
