Virginians know there are few things better than classic comfort food. Fortunately, there are countless restaurants that offer this brand of home cooking. Today's feature destination is one such place that belongs on your radar: the Roanoker Restaurant. This lovable neighborhood gem has been serving residents and visitors since opening its doors in 1941. The menu boasts a list of favorites ranging from yeast biscuits to country ham, fried chicken, and everything in between.
Welcome to the Roanoker Restaurant! If you've lived in southwestern Virginia, you've likely stopped by this local dining institution, which has existed since 1941.
At that time, the restaurant began as a limited partnership and was established for just $600.
Unfortunately, World War II broke out just six months after the restaurant opened. One of the partners, Crafton and Florence Warren, continued operating the restaurant as civilian neighborhood volunteers, packing food to feed soldiers that would stop in town.
Much has changed since the eatery first opened, but the quality of food has not. Recipes handed down for generations still make an appearance on the menu today.
For over 75 years, the motto here has been "good food at good prices." You'll find that portions are generous and the prices are wonderfully reasonable!
If it's your first time visiting this historic restaurant, you'll be charmed by the interior, with its classic booths and homey vibe.
Breakfast is offered until 1:00 p.m. and includes classics such as buttermilk waffles, pancakes, country sausage, and biscuits.
Lunch and dinner include a range of made-to-order sandwiches, Southern entrees, and all the classic comfort food side dishes: macaroni and cheese, baked potatoes, fried apples, and more.
