The Massive Toy Store In Virginia That Will Bring Out Your Inner Child
The beginning of the holiday shopping season often causes many of us to go into denial. What begins with the best of intentions can lead to chaos, stress, and last minute chain-store nightmares. Fortunately, there are some places that bring about a sense of joy and wonder, no matter your age. One such place can be found in the Shenandoah Valley. Pufferbellies is the biggest store of its kind in this region of Virginia, and it’s every bit as charming as Staunton itself. If you need a little more creativity and playfulness in your routine, this is the place to go.
The name says it all. Pufferbellies is a family-run toy store that has captured the hearts of Staunton’s residents and visitors alike. This spot is impressive in size and inventory, but it’s the spirit that truly defines this gem of a toy store. The owners of the store are a mother/daughter duo, both of whom have experience in children’s toys and books.
Step into the front door and you’ll be greeted by Bella, the stuffed giraffe mascot that sets the store’s adorable tone. You may also the unique architecture of the building itself, which is one of the few remaining original structures from the 1900s. The moldings, window frames, and street-level doors make for a picturesque exterior.
Inside, prepare to lose yourself in rows upon rows of books, toys, and a little bit of everything in between. The unique name of Pufferbellies was chosen to commemorate a children’s folk song about a train. Pufferbelly is a nickname for a train, and with Staunton being a historic train town, it makes for a perfect fit. And who can deny how fun it is to say?
The products inside are organized by age group, making it easy to find something for someone just a few months old to someone just entering teenage years (and even pups!). There are countless toys that range from stuffed animals, puppets, science and nature gear, dolls, trucks, and all kinds of gizmos.
The store also hosts an array of events, including lively sidewalk sales, readings, and even an adult coloring book night. It truly is a family-friendly space for all ages where imagination can run wild.
And just next door you’ll find the equally charming Split Banana, an ice cream store that can definitely fuel you for your next shopping trip. From the minute you enter this charming corner of Staunton's downtown, you know you've arrived someplace special.
Pufferbellies can be found at 15 West Johnson Street, Staunton VA 24401. Have you visited this store recently? Be sure to share your experience with us!
