Here's the map, outlining dates and regions where the leaves will be at their peak colors:
According to the map, the best time to explore the regions of the Blue Ridge Highlands, Appalachia, Virginia Mountains and Shenandoah Valley is between October 10th - 20th. The photograph above is taken from the scenic Fallingwater Cascades Trail along the Blue Bridge Parkway, Milepost 83.4.
From October 15th - 25th, Central Virginia that will take center stage in fall foliage production. This includes portions of Southern Virginia and bits of Northern Virginia as well. A drive through Charlottesville, Richmond, and Petersburg will yield an array of fall colors. The photographs above show Charlottesville and the Fan District of Richmond, respectively.
Last but not least, it’s the Eastern Shore that comes alive from October 20th - 31st. Areas such as the Chesapeake Bay and Hampton Roads will be especially prominent with color during these eleven days.
