Opt for the Cascades Falls Trail in Virginia and you can enjoy a scenic, shaded hike through the woods. And the best part? Located near Pembroke, Virginia is a refreshing 3.8-mile hike that leads to a remarkable destination. If you're looking for a moderate hike with a big payoff at the end, this trail is perfect.
The Cascades National Recreation Trail is both scenic and relaxing, offering a moderately challenging trail through the Jefferson National Forest. During the summer, the forest provides cool shade and an escape from the heat.
The trail follows Little Stoney Creek, which you'll cross at least a few times during the hike. The footbridge crossing photographed below is just one of many scenic portions of the trek.
Depending on the amount of rainfall, you can look forward to the atmospheric sound of rushing water as you draw closer and closer to the main attraction.
If you're feeling adventurous, you can take a dip in the pool of water at the base of the falls. Keep in mind that this water doesn't see much sunlight so it will be brisk!
