The Bermuda Triangle is a patch of ocean in the western North Atlantic Ocean. It’s near Florida and Bermuda and is famous for being the site of mysterious disappearances and spooky happenings. If you believe the legends, Vermont is also home to a cursed area known as the Bennington Triangle.

The Bennington Triangle is located just north of (you guessed it) Bennington, Vermont. It’s actually not really a triangle so much as a swath of land that is a hotbed of paranormal and gruesome activity. The "triangle" is known for being the site of frequent UFO sightings, shadowy figures, and even flesh-eating rocks. Of course, Bigfoot aficionados also claim that the wooly hominid has been seen in the Bennington area.

At the center of the Bennington Triangle is Glastenbury Mountain, which is the setting for some of the area’s most chilling stories. Part of the Green Mountain National Forest, the mountain was once the bustling center of a prosperous timber and charcoal industry. However, by the late 1800s, the area had been stripped of much of its natural resources. In 1937, the town of Glastenbury on Glastenbury Mountain was abandoned.

A few years later, the disappearances started.

Between 1945 and 1950, a documented total of eight people vanished on or close to Glastenbury Mountain. One of those was Paula Jean Welden, who disappeared on December 1, 1946. Because Welden was last seen wearing red, locals believe that wearing red on the mountain is inviting trouble. The Native American people who originally lived in the area also believed that Glastenbury Mountain was cursed and would travel out of their way to avoid it.

Today, the Bennington Triangle is still a source of supernatural tales and ghostly sightings. Some people believe the area is predisposed to haunting and violent happenings, while others reason that the Triangle’s reputation is a self-fulfilling prophesy.
