Utah is the ultimate getaway destination. It is home to multiple national parks, state parks, charming small towns, and so much more. Layton is an unassuming town in Davis County that has been named one of America’s best hidden gems for a weekend getaway and we have to agree. With family-friendly attractions, outdoor opportunities galore, delicious places to eat, and cozy accommodations, it’s one place that is definitely worth exploring.

Layton was developed in 1850 as an agricultural extension to Kaysville. It was settled by pioneers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who established farms and built cabins in the area.

It wasn’t until 1886 that the area became known as Layton, named after a local church leader. The town was officially incorporated in 1920.
Layton is near many towns and attractions, making it easy to find activities for every member of your family. But, there are still numerous must-see attractions right in the heart of the city like SeaQuest Utah.

SeaQuest Utah is a 20,000-square-foot aquarium on Hill Field Road featuring all types of interactive activities. It’s one destination that adults and children alike will enjoy.
For outdoor lovers or those who just want to find some peace and quiet in nature, there are countless recreational opportunities near the city. The Adams Canyon Trail is one scenic waterfall hike in Utah that has it all and checks off every box for the perfect outdoor adventure.

The trail is just over three miles round trip and takes you into the foothills of Layton. The payoff is well worth the effort as you’ll come to the stunning 40-foot Adams Waterfall.
In addition to numerous hiking opportunities, Layton is also near several reservoirs where you can enjoy some time in the water. Adams Reservoir and Holmes Reservoir are both nearby, as well as Hobbs Reservoir.

It is illegal to swim in the water at Hobbs Reservoir as the reservoir is privately owned, but you can hike around the pond and fish in its waters. But, if you do visit, stay alert. This is considered one of the most haunted reservoirs in Utah.
