Layton was developed in 1850 as an agricultural extension to Kaysville. It was settled by pioneers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who established farms and built cabins in the area.
It wasn’t until 1886 that the area became known as Layton, named after a local church leader. The town was officially incorporated in 1920.

This preserve is 4,400 acres and is home to between four to six million migratory birds. You can stop by the visitor center, walk along the mile-long boardwalk, and climb the 30-foot-tall observation tower during your visit.
