Utahns love ice cream, and we have plenty of ice cream parlors all across the state where you can get your frozen fix. There’s one little shop here that not only has tasty ice cream – it also has the friendliest service, provided by folks with special needs.
Welcome to Howdy Homemade Ice Cream! This little shop in the Sugarhouse area is particularly special, and you'll see why the moment you're greeted with a sunny "hello."

Many of the friendly folks who work here have special needs, but their challenges certainly don't get in the way of their abilities to provide great customer service.
The company got its start with a shop in Dallas, Texas. Owner Tom Landis wanted to change the way that businesses think about hiring people, and he started his ice cream shop by hiring folks with Down syndrome and autism.
When Utah residents Heidi and Chris Nielsen saw the little ice cream shop in Dallas, they knew they wanted to bring it here to Utah. They got the rights from Tom for the brand, and opened up their shop last summer.
You'll be greeted by a smile, and you can try samples of any of the flavors you'd like. Not sure which one is best? Ask the scooper which one he or she likes.
The Dr. Pepper Chocolate Chip is a signature flavor that you'll only find at Howdy Homemade. It's a unique confection, and if you like Dr. Pepper, you'll love it.
