You’ll Love This Utah Day Trip That Starts With A Swim In The Springs And Ends With Mouthwatering Mexican Food
Looking for a way to conquer mid-summer boredom? You need a day trip that offers relaxation and entertainment. Head to The Homestead Resort in Midway, where you can splash and play in the warm springs of the crater, then cap off your trip with some delicious Mexican food at Tarahumara. Take a look:
When Swiss immigrant Simon Schneitter found a warm mineral spring on his property, he knew he had something special. In 1886, he opened his farm up to visitors who could come bathe in the spring and enjoy a meal.
Today, Homestead Resort offers lodging, a restaurant, and golf course, but its most popular attraction is still the warm spring that they call The Homestead Crater. Visit the resort at 700 North Homestead Drive, Midway, UT 84049.
It took 10,000 years for this natural wonder to form. There's a geothermal spring deep underground, and minerals gradually built up above the spring, creating a 55-foot-tall, beehive-shaped dome that keeps the area around the spring nice and toasty.
The Homestead has all the equipment you need to play in the crater's warm waters. You can swim, snorkel, or even scuba dive here. The Homestead Crater offers the only warm water scuba diving in the continental U.S..
The water maintains a constant temperature of 96 degrees. The hole at the top of the dome provides sunlight and fresh air, and the atmosphere inside is relaxing.
You can play in the crater seven days a week, but you need to make reservations first. Call 435-657-3840 to reserve your spot.
You're certain to work up an appetite after swimming in the crater. Head to Tarahumara Mexican Restaurant for a tasty meal. It's located at 380 E. Main St., Midway, UT 84049.
This casual spot has plenty of seating, both indoors and out.
Start with chips and your choice of 20 different salsas from the salsa bar. The selection includes everything from Pico de Gallo to Salsa Brava, so whether you like yours mild or blazing hot, you'll find something to suit your tastes here.
You'll love the fresh guacamole, too.
The menu features dishes from northern Mexico, and you'll find an assortment of tacos, burritos, enchiladas, tortas, tamales, and fajitas on the menu. Your only problem will be deciding what to order.
The food is fresh and delicious, and piled high on your plate. You definitely won't leave hungry.
Pair your meal with a Mexican bottled soda, or try a margarita, beer, or cocktail.
For dessert, you don't want to miss out on the tres leches cake, but you can also choose from other confections like flan, chocolate cake, cheesecake chimichanga, and more. The restaurant also has a bakery inside, so you can choose something from the bakery case to take home.
Tarahumara Restaurant is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m..
