Cathedral Of The Madeleine In Utah Is A True Work Of Art
If you’ve lived in Utah for very long, you’re familiar with the numerous Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints temples all throughout the state, but that church is not the only religion here. People of other faiths also worship in some beautiful churches, temples, and cathedrals, and the Cathedral of the Madeleine is one of the most beautiful.
It took nine years to build the Cathedral of the Madeleine, but when it was completed in 1909, it was hailed as an incredible work of art. You'll find the cathedral at 331 E. South Temple in Salt Lake City.
The original interior of the cathedral was very plain, but in 1917, architect John Theodore Comes completely renovated it, adding beautiful murals, and stunning, colorful details to the Gothic columns and soaring ceiling.
While Utah's Catholics certainly appreciate this beautiful place, anyone is welcome. The cathedral hosts musical performances throughout the year, and its Cathedral Choir and Madeleine Choir School are world-renowned.
The Cathedral of the Madeleine holds weekday mass at 8 a.m. and 5:15 p.m.. Saturday and Sunday worship goes throughout the weekend at various times; visit the cathedral's website for the full schedule.
