Taking a drive is the perfect way to soak in some scenic Utah beauty without much effort, and the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway is one of the most popular in the state. You’ll see its appeal firsthand as you wind your way through American Fork Canyon and down toward Provo Canyon. Hop in the car and take a look!
The Alpine Loop Scenic Byway is one of Utah's most popular scenic drives, and for good reason. This 20-mile-long route from American Fork Canyon to Provo Canyon offers some of the most beautiful views in the state.
The narrow, winding road takes you all the up to the crest of American Fork Canyon, which sits at 8,000 feet. Then it descends down toward Provo Canyon, providing stellar views along the way.
You could stay in your car during your adventure, and just view the beautiful fall foliage from the road, but why would you want to do that? It's even prettier up close, so bring your camera along and take a few breaks along the way to capture this stunning beauty.
Take a stroll amongst the fall foliage on the Pine Hollow Trail - one of many along this route. It's a moderately-difficult trail that makes a 4.3-mile loop.
On your way down Provo Canyon, make sure to plan a stop at Bridal Veil Falls. Utah's tallest waterfall tumbles 607 feet down the rocky cliff. View it right from the upper parking area, or take a short stroll to gaze up at it from its base.
This spot is one of the best places to find fall foliage, but if you've lived in Utah for very long, you know that our foliage season can be very short.
