Red Rock Scenic Byway, also known as Highway 179, is a breathtaking route through the unique dessert landscape near Sedona, Arizona.

The incredible drive is just 7.5 miles in length, but visitors are encouraged to stop along the way at designated parking areas and spur trails which offer panoramic views of the famous red rock composition.

The rocks get their famous red color from the iron oxide deposits. The red color contrasts dramatically with the sky to create an almost otherworldly landscape.

If you're traveling solo, be sure to take the drive twice so you can appreciate the views from both sides. If you're with your family or a group, it's best to switch drivers to allow everyone the chance to marvel at the views.
