These 14 Towns In Vermont Have The Strangest Names You’ll Ever See

As a small state with few towns in the first place, we like to keep things interesting and memorable. So go ahead and have a good laugh when you throw a non-Vermonter for a loop and tell them you live in Moscow, but Egypt is only a short car ride away. While you're on your next road trip, be sure to keep an eye out for these hilarious and strange town names in Vermont.

1) Bread Loaf

There's no working post office, probably because everyone's mail was sent to the bakery instead.

2) Mosquitoville

I think I'll save visiting this one until the winter.

3) Dummerston

Come not only to take a picture next to the this sign, but also to see the longest covered bridge still in use in Vermont!

To construct a bridge that's 267 feet long over 100 years ago that still works today means this town must not live up to the reputation it's gotten from its name. It sure is one of the most unique towns in Vermont.

4) Killington

We all know Killington, yet we probably don't ponder how (or why) this town's name was established.

5) Satan's Kingdom

This one may be a part of Leicester, but the GPS will sure enough let you know when you've entered Satan's realm.

6) Orwell

My question, of course, is where is the animal farm?

7) Tinmouth

Sounds quite tasty to me.

8) Birdland

Birdland is located on North Hero island and is home to a large Amish population.

9) Sodom

Renamed Adamant in the early 20th century, many still know of the area by its former name. We'll hope they were referring to the book of Genesis when naming this town.

10) Moscow

Nope, we're not in Russia. But I could see why you might think that in the winter when the temperature drops below zero and ice storms hit.

11) Peru

Again, not in South America, but we might be able to convince those from Dummerston that we are.

12) Jamaica

If you told someone you lived within a few hours of Kansas, Egypt, Holland, Michigan, Jerusalem, Athens, Jamaica, Peru and Moscow, they might think you're either insane, lost, or just very confused. Little do they know you probably just live in Vermont...

If you don't think that Eden is a fitting name for this town, view the next picture.

14) And finally, Ticklenaked Pond

While there are some established nude beaches in Vermont, this one doesn't explicitly say you have to be clothed...I'm not even going to address the question as to how this town was named.

Do they send you to Satan's Kingdom after visiting Killington? Probably not. But you never know what could happen after a visit to Ticklenaked Pond...
