Scenic country roads in Vermont are more than just a way to get from one place to another. They are a way to get intimate views of charming towns, guide you around lakes and rivers, and surround you with breathtaking mountains. 1. 100 North - Wilmington to Newport
Some of the most beautiful scenery in the East can be found along Route 100, and it's definitely true when it comes to driving in the Northeast Kingdom.
Take some time to enjoy Lake Memphremagog in Newport. This is one of the best driving roads in Vermont.
2. Route 103 - The Connecticut River to the Valley of Vermont
This drive will take you through historic towns surrounded by beautiful architecture. The drive includes Rockingham, the Vermont Country Store, Chester, Cavendish, Proctorsville, Ludlow, and Cuttingsville.

3. Route 14 - The Old Central Corridor
Looking for "backroads near me" in Vermont? What was once a main road for Vermonters has become the road less traveled due to highways. Start the route in White River Junction and head north for a lovely drive.
Be careful crossing over the bridges!
4. Route 125 West - The Middlebury Gap
Also known as the Robert Frost Memorial Drive, this scenic drive travels through the Green Mountains and across the Champlain Valley. Don't miss the many side trips such as the Texas Falls.
Continue through Ripton and take in the views of the Champlain Valley and the Adirondack Mountains.
5. 106 North - Springfield to Woodstock
This beautiful road is a popular route for vintage auto clubs. Who can blame them? Check out that view of Mt. Ascutney!
The charming and picturesque town of Woodstock never disappoints.

6. Route 73 East - Brandon to Route 100
One of the many beautiful views you can take in on this drive is the eastern side of Lake Dunmore. Then you begin climbing up the twists and turns into the Green Mountain National Forest.
7. Route 78 West - Sheldon Junction to Swanton
This is a great route heading west through Northern Vermont on Route 105 on the way to Montreal, Northern New York or to the Champlain Islands. You'll find many places to pull off right on the Missisquoi River for canoeing, fishing, or just taking a break.
8. Route 9W - Brattleboro to Bennington
This is known as the Molly Stark Trail, as this was the path that her husband, General John Stark, took on his victorious journey home. Be sure to stop at the scenic lookout at Hogback Mountain. On a clear day, you can supposedly see four states from here.
Be sure to stop at Molly Stark State Park and climb this fire tower to see the amazing views.

9. Route 140 West - The Horace Greeley Highway
You'll love this less-traveled road which is especially loved by motorcyclists. Travel across the Long Trail and make the long, straight descent into the Tinmouth Channel.
Rest a while at the "Rest awhile with us" sign on the greens in Middletown Springs. Check out how far away other places are should your leisurely drive get a bit longer! Route 140 is one of the best driving roads in Vermont.
