Why Everyone in Utah Should Visit This One Tiny Town

Tucked into the Heber Valley, Midway has only around 4,000 residents. But don’t discount this pretty little town just because of its small size; it offers a LOT to do and see within its 3.3 square miles. Put Midway on your bucket list of places to visit soon, and don’t miss these special events and attractions.

In the 1860s and 1870s, Swiss immigrants populated the area that is now Midway. As a result, you’ll see a lot of Swiss influence in this town, which was incorporated in 1891.

The town hall was completed in 1941. Designed by Claude Shepherd Ashworth, it’s constructed of local "pot rock," a type of limestone.

During a winter visit, put on your boots, gloves and coat and explore the hand-carved Midway Ice Castles. Reserve your spot in advance.

Christmas in Midway is a "Swiss Christmas." The town hosts an old fashioned town party, a two-day event that includes performances, a display of creches and tons of craft items.

Midway has a large geo-thermal caldera, located at The Homestead. You can swim, snorkel and scuba in 90-degree water year-round.

The Homestead hosts summer concerts, too.

In June, the Plein Air Festival brings artists from all over the state to Midway. Artists compete in special contests, such as the 90-minute "Paint Off," which requires them to complete a canvas from start to finish in an hour and a half. Others participate in a longer 3-hour "Paint Off," setting up easels all over Midway and Heber to create a local landscape painting.

Run for charity and get good and muddy at the annual Dirty Dash. This year’s Dash is on June 6th.

Watch sheep dogs hard at work at the Soldier Hollow Classic, which brings more than 25,000 people to Midway every summer.

There’s so much scenic beauty around Midway, you could spend days hiking around the area.

Hear the Swiss Belles Choir perform at community events.

Midway residents celebrate their Swiss heritage every year at Swiss Days in September. Events include a parade, 10k run, chuckwagon breakfast and community dinner. The festival offers tons of food booths and plenty of live entertainment.
