10 Amazing Places You Can Go On One Tank Of Gas In Utah

Here’s a road trip through some of Northern Utah’s most gorgeous places. The average automobile can travel approximately 300 miles on one tank of gas. Our trip begins in Farmington, so obviously you'll need to add on the mileage from your home to our starting point.

While you can complete this trip with just one tank of gas, you’ll want to allow several days so that you can stop and play at all these great Utah destinations. What are you waiting for? Hop in the car and take this fun trip!

1. Amuse yourself at Lagoon Amusement Park in Farmington.

Spend the day screaming on the Cannibal, floating down the lazy river at Lagoon-A-Beach and checking out the stunning view from the top of the Ferris wheel. You can even stay overnight at Lagoon, if you'd like - the park offers a campground for tents or RVs.

2. Spend a day in Ogden.

There's so much to see and do in Ogden! Take your family to an Ogden Raptors game, go surfing at Flowrider or grab a meal on Historic 25th Street.

If you don't have the kids, see some comedy at Wiseguys or check out one of the pubs or breweries.

3. Choose some produce on Utah’s Fruit Way.

From Ogden, take US-89 "Utah’s Fruit Way," where you’ll find several local farm fruit and veggie stands along the side of the road. Grab some fresh produce and support local Utah farmers.

4. Stop by the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge.

The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge is definitely worthy of a stop on this trip. You’ll find dozens of bird species, including some "priority species" that rely on the refuge habitat. Take the 12-mile auto tour that makes a loop around the refuge, or stroll along the 1.5-mile trail that takes you right through the wetlands. Don’t forget your camera!

Stop by the James V. Hansen Wildlife Education Center to learn more about the refuge’s ecosystem, and see the movie "Wings of Thunder." The center is open from 8:00 - 5:00 Tuesday through Friday; from 10:00 - 4:00 on Saturday. It’s closed on Sunday.

5. Grab a meal at Maddox Ranch House

Maddox Ranch House is one of Utah’s oldest and most iconic restaurants. It’s open Tuesday through Saturday (closed Sunday and Monday). Grab a tasty lunch or delicious dinner. You’ll find Maddox in Perry, right outside of Brigham City.

6. Hang out in Logan.

Logan’s Main Street is a bustling, thriving place with plenty of places to grab a meal or snack and do some shopping.

Before you move on, make sure to stop at the Aggie Ice Cream store at the Utah State University campus (750 N. 1200 E). The Aggie Blue Mint is a one-of-a-kind confection that you’ll only get here. 7. Hike the Wind Cave Trail.

This 3.5-mile round trip hike is popular, and for good reason. The trail, cave and views are all amazing. It’s a bit strenuous (you’ll gain about 1,000 feet in elevation), but well worth it. Find the trailhead in Logan Canyon, directly across the street from the Guinavah-Malibu Campground.

8. Stay awhile at Bear Lake.

Try to plan at least an overnight visit at Bear Lake, which offers tons of recreation for the whole family. Bask on Rendezvous Beach, rent a jet ski or paddle around in a kayak or on a paddleboard. Of course, you’ll want to grab a delicious Bear Lake Raspberry shake while you’re there!

For a unique overnight experience, stay at Conestoga Ranch in Garden City. You can sleep in a Conestoga wagon, or go glamping in a safari tent with all the amenities. Visit their website for more information.

9. Take a drive along the Ogden River Scenic Byway.

Relax on a little scenic drive. From Bear Lake, you’ll drive south to the town of Woodruff, then turn off onto Highway 39. This road offers some beautiful scenery that you can only see during summer months - it’s closed in the winter. You’ll climb almost to the Mount Cristo Summit at 9,148 feet. From there, you’ll head to the Ogden Valley.

10. Enjoy Ogden Valley

There's tons to do in Ogden Valley!

Visit the Shooting Star Saloon in Huntsville (if you don’t have children with you). It’s the oldest continually operating bar in the state, and it offers a killer burger.

You can also stop by the Abbey of the Holy Trinity - they no longer offer tours, but you can buy hand crafted wood items, made by the monks there.

Pineview Reservoir offers a beach, picnic areas and plenty of fishing and water recreation.
