Take A Drive Down One Of Utah’s Most Beautiful Backroads For A Picture Perfect Day
Guardsman Pass Scenic Byway in Utah offers breathtaking views and is perfect for a summer or fall drive.
One of my favorite ways to explore the Beehive State is on a scenic drive. While there are many different scenic byways you can take that are each beautiful in their own way, during the summer and fall months, there is one that tends to stand out — Guardsman Pass Scenic Byway. This road is open seasonally and believe me, you’ll not want to miss it. The views are incredible, the drive is short, and it’s perfect for an afternoon of exploring.
We bet you won’t be able to stay in your car when you travel along the Guardsman Pass Scenic Byway in Utah. This road will connect you from Park City to either Brighton or Midway.
When you begin this scenic drive, you will climb on a paved road for approximately seven miles in the Wasatch Mountain Range. You will summit at 9,700 feet in elevation and the entire drive is breathtaking.
You will then come to a gravel stretch of road. While this road is well-trafficked, it is steep and you may encounter some washboard areas. I recommend tackling it in a high-clearance vehicle. In total, plan on driving approximately one hour each way.
This road is closed during the winter and becomes a popular snowmobile area. However, we don’t mind as summer and fall along this scenic backway are absolutely stunning.
In the summer, you will drive past forests …
… and fields of wildflowers.
However, the fall is my personal favorite as this is where you can view some of the best fall foliage in Utah.
If you want to get out of your car and explore a little, there are a handful of trailheads along Guardsman Pass including the Bloods Lake Trail.
This is a 2.7-mile out-and-back trail that is moderate in difficulty. Every step along this trail gorgeous – especially when covered in summer wildflowers.
As you follow Guardsman Pass, you will find multiple signs along the way, helping you know where to go. This is especially important when you reach the fork in the road and you must choose to visit Midway or Brighton.
You will also find pullouts along the way where you can stop and admire Utah's pure beauty. Take a few photos and even bring a picnic. This area is mesmerizing — Guardsman Pass just might become your new favorite scenic drive in Utah.
