13 U.S. Airport Lounges That Turn Travel Days Into Getaways
From chef-crafted dining to spa-style shower suites, these premium lounges offer comfort, calm, and a dose of luxury before you ever board your flight.
Long before wheels leave the runway, a truly great lounge can transform a standard travel day into something blissful. The most luxurious airport lounges across the U.S. aren’t just places to sit, they’re finely tuned sanctuaries offering chef-driven dining, spa-inspired amenities, quiet corners to recharge, and design elements that feel more boutique hotel than terminal.
After recently permanently upgrading my travel days to include premium lounge access, I've decided it's well worth the investment, simply for the peace of mind I get before each long- or short-haul flight.
1. American Express’s Centurion Lounge - DFW
Right in the heart of Terminal D, the Centurion Lounge at Dallas/Fort Worth is a serene oasis for Amex Platinum and Centurion cardholders. With lush seating zones, high-speed Wi-Fi, a business center, and a conference room, it's just as functional as it is elegant. The menu features local, Southwestern-inspired fare from top chefs, and the full bar pours creative cocktails. But the real treat? A soothing Exhale Spa offering complimentary 15-minute treatments, three private shower suites, and even a family playroom — perfect for unwinding before your flight.
2. British Airways/American Airlines Lounge - MIA
Located near gate E20, this all-new lounge at Miami International Airport boasts some superb luxury while you wait for your flight. While it is a British Airways-branded lounge, it's also available to eligible American Airlines passengers and frequent flyer members. With an Art Deco design and exciting amenities like a full bar, dining like you're in an actual restaurant, and soundproof work pods, you'll completely forget you're in an airport lounge here.
3. United Polaris lounge - SFO
This is the kind of lounge that makes business class feel like first class. At SFO, the Polaris Lounge offers a full bar (think flavorful cocktails like the “Airplane Cocktail”), an espresso station, and a buffet with self-serve drink coolers. Eight plush shower suites feel hotel-grade (memory foam mats, Saks Fifth Avenue towels, Cowshed spa products), and there’s even a laundry and pressing service. Drop off your clothes, ring a bell, and they come back freshly pressed. For rest, five semi-private nap rooms feature daybeds, Saks-branded pillows, eye masks, earplugs, and calming pillow mist. At this rate, why would you even want to leave?
4. American Airlines Chelsea Lounge - JFK
Part of AA and British Airways’ glitzy redesign in Terminal 8, the Chelsea Lounge feels like a botanical art installation: its ceiling is made of 150 suspended glass leaves, and the floor is elegant Italian marble. The food menu, crafted by a James Beard–nominated chef, leans transatlantic with plant-based and refined options. Power outlets at every seat, a calming light installation, and quiet luxury make it more than just a layover lounge—it’s a moment of calm before takeoff.
5. Delta One Lounge - BOS
At Boston Logan, the Delta One Lounge leans into New England charm with a nautical-themed design—a sail-ceiling, bronze accents, and a bar shaped like a ship’s rail. The culinary program, by chef Ed Brown, channels seafaring flavors and seasonal ingredients. Guests also get personalized service from lounge ambassadors, plus access to shower suites stocked with luxe Grown Alchemist products, bathrobes, and slippers to refresh before a long flight truly.
6. Delta One Lounge - SEA
The Delta One Lounge at SEA offers a calming, high-end retreat that blends Pacific Northwest style with thoughtful luxury. Its design features warm woods, deep greens, and massive windows that open onto a wrap-around terrace with sweeping views of the airfield and Mount Rainier.
Guests can enjoy a full-service restaurant showcasing local flavors—from Dungeness crab dishes to wood-fired steelhead and indulgent breakfast specialties—along with pastries and craft coffee from Caffè Umbria. Shower suites stocked with premium products, robes, and slippers add a spa-like touch, while concierge-style check-in keeps the experience smooth and personal.
7. American Airlines Club World - EWR
This Admirals-Flagship hybrid in Newark (Terminal A) gives you plenty of space to unwind: airside runway views, café-style seating, booths, and high-tops. There’s a business center with semi-private workspaces and phone pods for last-minute productivity. Though it’s less ostentatious than some flagship lounges, its modern design and relaxed atmosphere make it a solid spot for pre-flight downtime.
8. American Admirals Club - DCA
As a recently renovated lounge in Reagan National, the Admirals Club is cozy but polished, complete with a fireplace, a well-stocked bar, and plenty of power outlets to get your work done. You'll find it at the far end of Terminal 2, near Concourse E. It’s a comforting space to recharge, grab a drink or snack, and disconnect before heading through the terminal. A lot of people are saying this "reimagined" lounge has a more homey feel, where you can sit in a plush couch near the fireplace and enjoy the luxe amenities.
9. Star Alliance Business Class Lounge - LAX
Arguably one of the most scenic lounges in the U.S., the Star Alliance Lounge at LAX’s Tom Bradley Terminal is a rooftop-style escape. A posh indoor terrace flows out to a dramatic outdoor deck, complete with fire pits, water features, and tarmac views—especially sublime at sunset. Inside, there are eight shower suites, a media/nap room, and self-serve wine and spirits to match the relaxed California vibe.
10. Delta Sky Club - SLC
This club might have some of the most epic mountain views in the country. Salt Lake City’s Sky Club blends mountain-modern warmth with sky-high views. Think wood accents, generous seating, and local-inspired bites and beverages—the perfect way to decompress mid-journey or refuel before your next leg. Recent updates also include new digital walls and wellness touches, which further enhance the overall luxury.
11. Chase Sapphire Lounge - LGA
This two-story Chase Sapphire Lounge packs in major personality. With over 21,000 square feet, it features a 360° Apotheke cocktail bar, all-day a la carte menus (designed by NYC spot Joseph Leonard), and cozy seating with built-in power. Wellness is front and center here: guests can book a 30-minute facial with Face Haus, meditate in a pod, or unwind in the nap rooms. And for a splurge, Chase Reserve or J.P. Morgan Reserve cardmembers can reserve “Reserve Suites”—private rooms with TV, mini-bar, spa-style shower, and even caviar on arrival.
12. Virgin Atlantic’s Clubhouse at JFK

Pure uptown glamour. The JFK Clubhouse channels Virgin’s signature grace, with a plush cocktail bar, five-star à la carte dining, and a laid-back lounge area. For fun, there’s a game zone with a pool table and red “ball sofa,” plus a bag check so you can roam luggage-free. Showers are available, and there’s secure luggage storage to stash carry-ons—this is where you reset in style before boarding.
13. American Express Centurion Lounge - ATL

At Hartsfield-Jackson, the Centurion Lounge gives Platinum and Centurion cardholders a premium retreat with chef-driven seasonal menus, a full bar, and swanky seating zones. Expect high-speed Wi-Fi, private phone rooms, and designated workspaces. It also features shower suites and dedicated family rooms, so whether you’re freshening up or traveling with kids, you’re covered.
