There are plenty of historic towns in Texas where you can experience our state's rich and fascinating history. One of them is Seguin, a charming town nestled in the iconic Hill Country region. Seguin is best known for being home to the world's largest pecan statue, but that quirky claim to fame isn't all the town has to offer. Visitors can explore the lively town square, tour historic homes, have a blast at an amusement park, enjoy delicious food and local beer, and even hunt for ghosts! See the best things to do in Seguin, Texas, and why it's one of the best day trip destinations in the state for yourself.

So, you may be wondering, "Where is Seguin, Texas?" Seguin is located in Guadalupe County and has a population of nearly 30,000. Its small-town charm makes it a wonderful day trip destination. As for what's the closest city to Seguin, Texas, the answer is San Antonio. In fact, the town is located 36 miles to the northeast of San Antonio.

Founded just over a year after Texas gained independence from Mexico, Seguin is one of the most historic towns in the state. It's named after Juan Seguin, a Texas army captain.

Seguin's town square is peppered with historic buildings that have stood the test of time. From charming little cafes to antique shops and everything in between, these local relics will transport you back to yesteryear.

As you're touring downtown, don't miss Seguin's biggest claim to fame: the world's largest pecan. No, it isn't a real pecan, but at five feet long and nearly 1,000 pounds, the statue is undeniably impressive.

History buffs will love seeing all the old homes scattered throughout the town. One of them is the Sebastopol House Historic Site, a Greek Revival house constructed in 1856. Guided tours of the home are offered Thursday-Sunday. Please visit the City of Seguin website for more information.

If you're taking a day trip to Seguin, Texas with kids — or are simply a kid at heart yourself — be sure to check out ZDT's Amusement Park. This 10-acre fun center features 12 attractions, including go-karts, water rides, and a video game arcade. You may also want to pop into Seguin Brewing Company to sample a variety of on-tap beers (brewed in-house!) and chow down on artisan pizza. Whether you opt for a flight or a frosty mug of your favorite ale, rest assured there's a perfect sip for everyone.

We also recommend that you time your visit around July 4 to experience "The Biggest Small Town Fourth of July Parade in Texas." The whole weekend leading up to the holiday is a big, bold show of patriotism, and it's a truly memorable experience.

Now, we know this is a day trip article, but we'd be remiss not to mention the iconic Magnolia Hotel, which is considered to be one of the most haunted hotels in Texas. It was built in 1840 and has been featured on such popular shows as "Ghost Adventures" and "Paranormal Caught on Camera." You don't even have to spend the night as guided ghost tours are offered on a regular basis ... if you're brave enough, that is.

However, if you do want to spend the night and prefer the privacy of a vacation rental, check out The River Retreat. This tiny home sits along the banks of the Guadalupe River, and there are kayaks to use if you want to be out on the water.
