Escape to This Charming Mountain Town in Tennessee Before Fall Ends
Pigeon Forge is a charming mountain town in Tennessee that's perfect for a fall getaway.
Fall in Tennessee is my favorite time of the year. While most travelers prefer the long summer days and lush greenery, I’ll take those dreamy fall colors and cozy nights without question. With my favorite season approaching, I think it’s an ideal time to feature Pigeon Forge, a charming mountain town that’s perfect for a fall getaway.
Despite its popularity, Pigeon Forge has a population that hovers under 7,000 residents, which puts it into small-town territory. Regardless of the time of year you visit, you’ll find plenty of things to do in Pigeon Forge. That being said, this charming mountain town really comes alive in the fall.
Things to do in Pigeon Forge

From thrilling roller coaster rides to casual miniature golf courses, the attractions in Pigeon Forge are endless. That’s one of my favorite things about this charming mountain town: it does an incredible job at offering something for everyone. If you’re here with toddlers, you’ll find things to do. If you’re here as an adult, you’ll find things to do. There’s never a dull moment! Even if it’s raining, you can visit one of the many museums in Pigeon Forge. Of course, a stroll along the Pigeon Forge Riverwalk is a great way to see the sights and enjoy the views.
Dollywood
Dollywood is one of the most popular attractions in Pigeon Forge. The family-friendly theme park attracts travelers of all ages, and you don’t need to be a fan of Dolly Parton to enjoy the park (although who’s not a fan?!). While the water park is a favorite spot in the summer, fall brings special seasonal events, including Dollywood’s Harvest Festival. From September 12 to October 27, 2025, visitors can enjoy special live performances from Southern gospel, country, and bluegrass performers, marvel at the massive 40-foot pumpkin tree, and fill up on all of the best fall-inspired treats.
The Island in Pigeon Forge
Boasting 23 acres of entertainment, you’ll never run out of things to do here. The Island in Pigeon Forge features over 80 shops, including restaurants and other attractions that are geared toward families of all ages. The 200-foot Great Smoky Mountain Wheel is a fan favorite and gives you an incredible view of the area. If you prefer your adventures to be firmly planted on the ground, check out their newest attraction for 2025: Jurassic Adventure. Here, visitors can step into the dinosaur world, complete with 22 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs. Jurassic Adventure concludes on November 2, 2025, so don’t miss it!
Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Part of the appeal of visiting this charming mountain town is its proximity to America’s most popular National Park, Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You can reach the national park from Pigeon Forge in 20-30 minutes, so adding this side quest to your itinerary is a no-brainer. Plus, we all know the Great Smoky Mountains in the fall is an otherworldly experience. Here are some of my favorite Great Smoky Mountains National Park hikes that are magical in the fall:
- Cataract Falls (1 mile)
- Gatlinburg Trail (3.8 miles)
- Rainbow Falls (5 miles)
Of course, if you want to challenge yourself, there are plenty of harder hiking trails within the park. For some incredible views, check out:
- Charles Bunion via Appalachian Trail (8 miles)
- Kuwohi Observation Tower Trail (1.3 miles, but very steep)
Where to Stay in Pigeon Forge
Since it’s such a popular tourist destination, there are plenty of places to stay in Pigeon Forge and even its neighboring town of Gatlinburg. For a camping vibe, check out the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg KOA Holiday.
I think a cabin is the way to go, and this cabin in Pigeon Forge is practically perfect in every way. The three-bedroom cabin is in a prime location and puts you just two miles away from all of the action.
